Radiators Not Heating
When only part of a system stays cold, the fault is usually local and fixable, so call and list which rooms are affected.
When this becomes an emergency
- Certain rooms never warm up while the rest of the building is comfortable.
- A radiator hisses sharply or bangs shortly after the boiler starts.
- The lower half of a radiator heats and the upper half stays cold.
- A shutoff or balancing valve is frozen in place and won't move.
What a pro does
Which rooms are cold is the most useful clue anyone can hand a technician. A pattern that follows one branch of pipe points at trapped air or a stuck valve on that loop, while cold rooms scattered across floors more often means the circulator is struggling or the system is out of balance. Air is the usual answer on hot-water systems, and bleeding it out in the right sequence is what actually clears a loop that's blocked rather than moving the pocket somewhere new. Older buildings that grew room by room end up with loops nobody ever balanced properly. On steam, a plugged vent starves the radiator no matter how well the boiler is running.
